Arleen Paré, originally from Montreal, worked for over two decades in Vancouver’s social service and health bureaucracies. She has graduate degrees in Social Work and Adult Education and is currently completing a degree in Creative Writing at the University of Victoria. She is the first recipient of the Candis Graham Award for Literature and has won scholarships from the BC Arts Council and the University of Victoria. Her poetry has appeared in publications such as Geist magazine, CV2, and This Side of West, as well as in various anthologies. Her first novel, Paper Trail (NeWest Press, 2007), recounts, in poetry and lyric prose, the trials of working in, and extricating oneself from, the bureaucratic environment. She resides in Victoria, where she lives with her partner, Chris Fox. She has two adult sons.
