By Anne Burke, Chair. I am pleased to report that National Library’s “New Books” for July featured our very own Inspiratrices 2008, with texts by Magie Dominic, Penn Kemp, and Susan McMaster.
Thank you to Magie for her painstaking work editing the thought-provoking papers on “Eco Poetry” from the 2009 Conference. Nevertheless, we need to keep in mind that One in Four Canadian Women are Victims of Domestic Violence. Calgary has the Second Highest Rate of Domestic Violence in Canada. Domestic violence is about power and control in a relationship through coercion, threats, abuse and intimidation. For full report click here.

Freehand Books will be celebrating the Fredericton launch of Jesse Patrick Ferguson’s debut collection of poetry, Harmonics, on Thursday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Books (445 King Street, Fredericton). Jesse will read from and answer questions about his collection, and snacks and light refreshments will be served. Hugh MacDonald (Montague, PEI) and Joe Blades (Fredericton, NB) have signed-on for this year's Random Acts of Poetry, 5-11 Oct. For full report click here. |
