NEWS FROM THE FEMINIST CAUCUS

Gloria Alvernaz Mulcahy is editing a companion volume to the chapbook Sisters in Spirit, with responses to the panel papers.  She is associated with the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women and Children, at the University of Western Ontario, a collaborative venture of the University of Western Ontario, the London Coordinating Committee to End Woman Abuse, and Fanshawe College. You can check out their web site at www.crvawc.ca.  There is an annual conference and newsletter. On August 15, 2008, Ontario committed 1$.5 million to support victims of domestic abuse and prevention programmes, with an additional $700,000 for special projects for “Neighbours, Friends, and Families”, a public education campaign to raise awareness. JUDGES NEEDED FOR POETIC LICENCE CONTEST FOR YOUTH
The League is looking for volunteers to judge this year's youth poetry contest.  There are two age categories, junior (grades 7-9) and senior (grades 10-12).   First place poems in each category will receive a cash prize of $350, second place winners will receive $300 and third place winners will receive $250. All winning poems will be published in the League of Canadian Poets’ e-zine, Re:verse at www.youngpoets.ca , and will receive Poetic Licence certificates and student memberships in the League of Canadian Poets for one year.  The deadline for the contest is Jan 15th, 2009, with winners chosen by March 1st, 2009.  If you are available during this time frame, and wish to help us in this project to encourage young poets across the country, please contact Ingel at readings@poets.ca.
