THE HISTORY OF NATIONAL POETRY MONTH IN CANADA
By Andrea Thompson. The idea to create a month dedicated to reading, writing, speaking and promoting poetry in North America began in the US, when the Academy of American Poets created the first annual National Poetry Month in1996.  Fueled by a desire to help inspire people of all ages to explore this passionate art form the Academy chose April; the beginning of the season of rebirth an renewal. NEWS FROM THE FEMINIST CAUCUS COMMITTEE
By Anne Burke, Chair. Come and join us for the Feminist Caucus Panel, “Fem/Aged Inspirators”, on Friday, June 20, at 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the Gallery Room.  This will build on the momentum of last year’s session “Women Poets in Canadian History”. The presentation will take whatever form the panelists like—prose, poetry, performance, audio or visual interview, etc.—but should address a living woman poet whose influence “forms, informs, inspires, goads, provokes, prods, stings, stirs, stimulates, spurs, incites, badgers, rouses and/or arouses you and your writing.
