Mary Lou Soutar-Hynes, Jamaican-Canadian, former nun, is an Ontario poet/educator. She studied, taught and worked in education in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kingston and Mandeville, Jamaica and in Toronto where she has lived since immigrating to Canada in 1969. A member of an active writing group of poets that regularly gives readings in Toronto, she also belongs to the Writers' Union of Canada, The Saskatchewan Writers Guild and the Association of Caribbean Women Writers and Scholars. Her poetry and non-fiction articles have been published in a variety of journals. Recently retired from the Ontario Ministry of Education, she divides her time between writing and projects in education.
