Kay Smith

Kay Smith, a Life member of the League of Canadian Poets, was born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1911. She graduated in Speech and Drama from Mount Allison University in 1933, and also studied theatre at Columbia University. She was active in the Saint John Theatre Guild, the Children's Theatre, and the Dominion Drama Festivals in Saint John, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. She taught English and Drama at Alma College in St. Thomas, Ontario for two years and taught English at Saint John Vocational School for twenty-nine years, producing the annual Shakespeare play. She has conducted writing workshops at the University of New Brunswick, the Maritime Writers Workshop, and schools in New Brunswick. In 1988, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of New Brunswick.
