Cheryl Antao-Xavier

Cheryl Antao-Xavier is a poet, freelance writer and playwright. She is a Canadian citizen of Goan (South Asian) heritage. She currently resides in Mississauga, Ontario. Cheryl has been writing poetry for over 20 years and her poems have been published in anthologies and literary magazines. Her first collection of poems entitled Dance of the Peacock was published in May 2008 by In Our Words Inc., www.inourwords.ca. Her second book entitled Bruised but Unbroken will be published in 2010.

She is a member of the League of Canadian Poets, The Writer's Union of Canada, The Ontario Poetry Society and is chair of the Peel branch of the Canadian Federation of Poets. She is the Literary Editor for Chapter & Verse, a website promoting Canadian literature.

Cheryl was a 2008 finalist for a Martys Literary Arts award (Emerging artist category) organized by the Mississauga Arts Council.
